July 12, 2008 District Meeting Minutes
Eastern District

Eastern District Committee Meeting – July 12, 2008

Charlie Boone, Eastern District Coordinator, called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm. Gail Rumler, District Secretary/Treasurer read the minutes of the last district meeting, and presented the latest treasurer’s report. Both were accepted as read.

Chapters represented were: Tar River Basin, Granville, Columbus, Raleigh, Brunswick and Carteret-Craven.

Charlie discussed the email he sent to all the chapters reporting that Gail Rumler, District Secretary will be resigning her position after the July meeting, and will also be resigning her  position as District Treasurer at the end of the year. Charlie noted that to facilitate an easier transition, the treasurer’s position should be filled by the October state meeting weekend so that the new treasurer will have everything necessary to facilitate planning the 2009 District Swap Meet. The floor was open for nominations. Several people were nominated, but they all declined the nomination.

Charlie discussed the need for an Eastern District Legislative Coordinator. The job requires that the District LC be a two-way liaison between the State Legislative Director and the district chapters to disseminate information and keep chapters current on all legislative issues and agendas. No member volunteered to accept the position. Chapter officers are to discuss this at chapter meetings.

Charlie discussed the impending resignation of State President Randy Norris, and the process that chapters will need to follow as a formal election must be held to elect a new state president. He reported that he and Fred Beaver were nominated, and nominations will be open for a period of time. All the details and election process will be specified the following day during the Executive Council Meeting. Charlie reported that if he is elected State President, the Eastern District will need to elect a new Coordinator.

Eastern District Swap Meet

Charlie reported that no plans have been started for the 2009 Swap Meet since it is only July. He reported that the process of obtaining insurance and getting the necessary permits to sell beer should be started around the first of December. He learned many valuable lessons in planning the 2008 Swap Meet to expedite the process.

He asked that members come up with some ideas for entertainment and present them at the next meeting, such as the Mr. CBA contest Tar River Basin chapter hosted at the 2008 Swap Meet.

Charlie reported that the annual $500.00 payment is due for the District Swap Meet sign displayed at the Wilson County Fairground. There were no objections to keeping the sign, so Gail Rumler will mail a check to the Fairgrounds management.

Currently, the Eastern District signs/sandwich boards are stored in the CBA trailer which is parked at Gail Rumler’s house. The trailer will be moved to another site in the coming months, and suggestions were offered as to where we can store the ED property.

Cape Fear Valley Chapter  & Freedom Bike Fest

Randy Norris reported on the event held over the Fourth of July weekend. His opinion is we should have a booth at the event next year. He reported that Cape Fear valley chapter had a very nice banner made and that their supplier offers very good pricing and is available to make banners for other CBA chapters and functions.

Some members discussed the ED booth we worked the last two years during the Raleigh Bike Fest, and discussed what has and has not worked for us during those two events.

Chapters reported on upcoming chapter events and runs. Charlie reminded everyone of the CBA state party that will be held over Labor Day weekend. The event site is a short distance from Sanford, with camping sites available, and a nice hotel nearby.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:31 pm.
